A Genome Sciences Centre for Southern Alberta
Empowering scientists, building collaborations
SAGSC connects the omics researchers and facilities at the University of Lethbridge and provides a leading bioinformatics core in Southern Alberta.
Who we are
The Southern Alberta Genome Sciences Centre (SAGSC) is a research centre at the University of
Lethbridge and the leading hub of BioNet Alberta, a network of genomic and bioinformatics
scientists across the province.

What we do

Facilitate the generation, storage, analysis and integration of omics data. SAGSC connects all high throughput sequencing platforms across the University of Lethbridge and hosts a state-of-the-art bioinformatics core facility for data analysis.
Offer services, foster collaborations.
SAGSC promotes collaborations between researchers at the University of Lethbridge and province-wide through its connection to BioNetAlberta. SAGSC champions a variety of research projects investigating cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, transgenerational inheritance and plant biology.
Drive innovation in teaching in the fields of bioinformatics and genomics. SAGSC supports bioinformatics post-secondary courses and training at the undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral level.
Deliver science outreach activities for youth and the community. We help disseminate the impact on society of current omics research and applications and promote STEM through omics-inspired world-class resources.
